Privacy of medical information and the protection of patient privacy is an essential component of Residential’s vision to be the home care company of choice for patients and providers. Every Residential Home Health team member receives annual training regarding patient privacy and is required to pass tests on HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and PHI (Private Health Information).

PRIVACY PRACTICES

How do we use medical information about you?

For Treatment
We may use medical information about you to provide, coordinate or manage your health care and related services by both us and other health care providers. We may disclose medical information about you to doctors, nurses, hospitals and other health facilities who become involved in your care.

For Payment
We may use and disclose medical information about you so we can be paid for the services we provide to you. This can include billing you, your insurance company, or a third party payor.

For Healthcare Operations
We may use and disclose medical information about you for our own health care operations.

Residential Home Health’s Notice of Privacy Practices describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how patients can get access to this information.

Our Corporate Compliance Program follows the Office of the Inspector General’s Compliance Program Guidance for Home Health Agencies. (http://oig.hhs.gov/compliance/compliance-guidance/index.asp) In addition, Residential Home Health follows compliance recommendations developed by its accreditation agency, Accreditation Commission for Health Care (http://www.achc.org/) (ACHC) and other compliance best practice organizations.

ACCREDITATION

Residential Home Health is an accredited home care agency by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) in Michigan. ACHC is the Medicare deeming authority for home health, hospice and durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies. Less than 10% of home care agencies in Michigan are ACHC accredited.

For a fifth year, Residential Home Health has been named to the HomeCare Elite, a compilation of the leading home healthcare providers in the U.S. based on patient outcomes.
